1990 Bluebird Skoolie
The full-size skoolie was a dream, as was having a place to live as a base camp and still tow a small 4×4 to epic campsites. What we didn’t consider was the shear amount of time and energy that would be required to build it into what we wanted. We completed a roof raise and not much more before losing steam and giving up.
Before
The Build
The plan with the full-size bus build was to have a fully contained house that we could move on occasion, but that was sitting still more than moving around.
Because Zach is 6’3″ tall, a 12″ roof raise was required. We lifted the roof and sheeted the outside with sheet metal and rivets. This project took far longer than we intended and that was without windows. We began to frame the windows and settled into selling the bus and cutting our losses and time invested.
During the build process, Zach went back to school for nursing and the project fell by the wayside. We were able to sell the enclosed skoolie to a gentleman who was planning to use it as a cabin in the woods. Perfect, the hard work was already completed.
